LP Illinois News - November 2008 #1

Libertarian Election Results

Libertarians across Illinois worked hard this year to support electoral progress for our party. Although we did not win any new offices this cycle, we do have a number of victories to take pride in:

- The 2008 Presidential ticket of Bob Barr and Wayne Root drew about 500,000 votes across the country--a 26% increase over our 2004 total, in spite of the Obamamania that swept much of the public and the press

- Larry Stafford, our U.S. Senate candidate, spread the message of liberty through numerous newspaper, radio, and television opportunities across Illinois and drew nearly 50,000 votes in his first election campaign

- Dan Druck and Eric Ferguson, our candidates for U.S. Congress—who were not allowed on voter ballots—continued our fight for fair ballot access law in Illinois

- Julie Fox has already announced her candidacy for State Controller and over a dozen others have also expressed interest in becoming Libertarian Party candidates in the 2010/2012 elections

- Through the success of our state-wide petition drive, we provided the Libertarian Party alternative to every voter in Illinois, while gaining invaluable expertise to benefit future petition drives on every level

- We've grown LP Illinois membership by 20% this year and volunteers continue to flow in

- We have five new chapters forming and rejuvenation of a number of our existing chapters

- We have 11 newly-elected LP Illinois officers, enthusiastic about growing our Party and libertarian influence in our society

The Libertarian Party of Illinois thanks everyone who participated in this year's elections, including our activists, candidates, donors, petitioners and voters. Without you, our victories would not be possible.

If you would like to continue our progress forward, now's the time to tell our:
- Activism Chair that you would like to staff an outreach booth
- Campaigns Chair that you would like to be a candidate
- Fundraising Chair that you would like donate your time or money
- Legislative Chair that you would like to watch the workings of Congress
- Membership Chair that you would like to start a chapter
- Public Relations Chair that you would like to help share our message

You can make our next victory happen.

"The world is indebted for all triumphs which have been gained by reason and humanity over error and oppression." - Thomas Jefferson
