END THE FED RALLY A HUGE SUCCESS

50 members of the Libertarian Party of Illinois (LP Illinois) were among 300 people from various freedom loving groups who participated in an End the Fed Rally in downtown Chicago on Saturday, November 22nd. The LP Illinois sponsored the event.

Chicago was one of 38 cities which held rallies on that day.

"The energy was incredible," remarked Dave Brady, State Chair of LP Illinois, who was one of the LP Illinois members in attendance. "Horn blowing, cheering, nods of agreement, people taking pictures and asking how we can fix things, it was great to be a part of the rally and I am proud that LP Illinois members participated," he added.

Brady also lauded the efforts of the Chicago Police Department in assisting the marchers with traffic and with keeping the group together. "They couldn't have been more professional, helpful and friendly," he said. The march began across the street from the Wrigley building, traveled through Millennium Park, past State Street and ended up a block from the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago building on La Salle Street.

The purpose of the rally was to draw attention to the flaws of the Federal Reserve System, which has existed since 1913. "End the Fed" activists believe that the Federal Reserve Bank, through its inflation of the money supply and the distortion of free markets resulting from its intervention, is responsible for the current financial and economic crisis.

The rally was featured on the local Chicago news on Saturday evening. There are also several rally clips posted to You Tube.

UPDATE: LP CHAPTER AT NIU MAKING PROGRESS

Back in early October, the LPI Newsletter reported on a candidate forum at the NIU campus in DeKalb. The event featured many representatives from the Libertarian Party of Illinois, including David Brady (State Chair), Kent McMillen (Public Relations Chair), Larry Stafford (former candidate for U.S. Senate) and Dan Druck (former candidate Illinois 14th Congressional District).

Chris Gilson (a graduate geography major at NIU) and Michael Fogelsanger (a member of the DeKalb County Libertarian Party) organized the event.

Since then, Gilson has made significant strides towards establishing a Libertarian Chapter at NIU.

In an article featured in the Northern Star, the author, Giles Bruce, states: "The NIU College Libertarian Chapter aims to become the only third-party organization recognized by the Student Association. They will apply for SA-recognition next semester after recruiting loyal members."

THIS NATION OF GIMMIES

by: E.J. Pagel, Winnebago, IL

(The following is an opinion piece submitted by a reader. The views expressed do not reflect the official views of the Libertarian Party of Illinois.)

I don't respect - no, I'm scornful of the neocon Republicans who wouldn't nominate Ron Paul, and the so-called Americans who elected Obama.

This will embolden the leftist extremists in Congress, especially Durbin, Pelosi and Reid, to enact more draconian gun laws and further roll out the red carpet for illegal aliens.

It will embolden the Muslim extremists worldwide, who supported his campaign because they think he is anti-military, soft on border security, and willing to negotiate with rogue states and terrorists.

It will embolden this nation of gimmes who demand the government bear all the expenses of their very existence.

We productive citizens are paying for everyone who lives off the government, receives subsidies or contracts from the government.

Why shouldn't we be the only ones allowed to vote, thereby determining how our own hard-earned tax dollars are spent? It's a slap in the face to us and to our Founding Fathers.
