LP Illinois News - Month 2009 #

GOVERNOR SHOULD RESIGN IMMEDIATELY

Immediately following last week's arrest of Governor Rod Blagojevich, the Libertarian Party of Illinois issued an official statement condemning the Governor's actions and calling for his immediate resignation. "The citizens of this state deserve and must demand elected officials who serve honestly and with integrity," stated David Brady, State Chair of LP Illinois.

Blagojevich was arrested on December 9, 2008, accused of scheming to profit from the selling of President-Elect Barack Obama's senate seat for cash or for a political appointment. Charges against Blagojevich were detailed in a 76 page criminal complaint.

ACTIVISM & OUTREACH PLANS FOR 2009

Our Activism Chair is looking for volunteers and ideas to reach more potential members, voters and donors in 2009. Specifically, we are looking for:

* Members who would like to arrange or staff "Operation Politically Homeless" booths at County Fairs or other events in their area. OPH is a simple and effective way to reach people who may be Libertarians but don't know it. (For more information on Operation Politically Homeless, visit TheAdvocates.org)

* Ideas and volunteers to research and select other types of activism/outreach events. Do YOU have a passion or idea for a particular kind of activism, protests, letter writing or canvassing?

* We're also looking for LP Illinois members who are also members of the National Rifle Association to participate in a possible future activism effort.

If any of these activism outlets strikes your fancy, PLEASE contact Val Vetter (Activism Chair) at activism@LPIllinois.org or (847) 712-4746 today!

NEW POSITION AT LP ILLINOIS: WHITE HOUSE AFFAIRS

The Libertarian Party of Illinois is looking for a volunteer to fill a new position: White House Affairs.

This person will be solely responsible for tracking Obama's executive orders, legislation, vetoes, speeches and press releases.  They would also monitor the White House website, twitter and feeds.  Lastly, they would follow his calendar as to when he will be in Illinois and Chicago.

The person holding this position will be responsible for submitting a report to the State Chair or Legislative Chair as to what occurred throughout the month.  They would also maintain a spreadsheet and database track documenting Obama's activities.

This person could be used as a resource to the next Libertarian presidential candidate and assist them in strategy and information.

All interested in this position can submit there request to Dave Brady (Chair@LPIllinois.org) or call (800) 735-1776

`TIS THE SEASON – FOR DIGGING INTO THE CONSTITUTION

LP Chicago is very pleased to once again host Michael Badnarik's class on the U.S. Constitution.

This 8-hour class (Saturday December 20th from 9:00am to 6:00pm), at the Lincoln Restaurant in Chicago (4008 N. Lincoln), is extremely informative and highly enjoyable. As anyone who has attended Michael's class can attest, no matter how much you already know about the Constitution, you are bound to learn something new.

We are in the midst of a great Washington power grab, making it more important than ever to know the difference between your rights and your government's legitimate powers.

Michael is a renowned Constitutional scholar, author, and radio talk show host, and was the 2004 LP candidate for President of the United States.

If you have already attended Michael's class, it is probably time for a refresher. If you have not attended Michael's class, you are in for a real treat.

The cost of the class is $100, which includes a copy of Michael's book, "Good to Be King." You can register at constitutionpreservation.org.

METRO EAST CHAPTER REESTABLISHED AND LOOKING AHEAD TO 2009

On December 13th, the Metro East Libertarians held their monthly chapter meeting at Castletown Geoghegan Pub in Belleville, Illinois. Five libertarians attended for discussions on the future establishment of the chapter, potential group officers, recruiting candidates for 2009 and 2010 elections, the possibility of working with other like-minded local groups for the preservation of liberty and, of course, current events in the state and nation.

The next meeting is scheduled for noon on Sunday January 18th, once again at Castletown Geoghegan Pub in Belleville.

For more information about the Metro East Libertarians, please contact Wil Dixon (wilwithonel07@gmail.com) or Brian Oneal (thecaptain77@msn.com).

RON PAUL SPEAKS OUT AGAINST BAILOUTS, THE FED AND NATIONAL HEALTHCARE

In an interview conducted by Newsmax, Dr. Ron Paul gave his opinion regarding bailouts, stating: "I find it to be bad economics. I find it bad morally to transfer wealth from one group of people to another no matter what kind of problems they have…"

He addressed the "insane" nature of the Federal Reserve and fiat paper money. He also labeled Barack Obama's attempts to establish health care for all Americans (under our current economic conditions) as "foolhardy" and said it "will seal our fate."

WORDS OF WISDOM

"Nothing is more essential to the establishment of manners in a State than that all persons employed in places of power and trust must be men of unexceptionable characters. The public cannot be too curious concerning the characters of public men."

~ Samuel Adams, 1775
