Libertarian Party
of Illinois

Volunteer

Libertarians care. They care about their family, community, country, and world. They care enough to take action and secure liberty for all peaceful people. Here are some ways you can get involved in the liberty movement.

Stay Informed

Sign up with our Yahoo Group. We publish emails twice per month with news from around the state, including events and activities you can participate in.

Contact Public Officials

Libertarians are encouraged to tell their representatives what bills they should sponsor and how they should vote on important issues.

The first step is to identify your public officials and obtain their contact information. A good tool to use is the Legislator Lookup on the Illinois General Assembly website. If you Search by Address (just put in your full zip code), it will provide you with contact information for your U.S. Senators and Representative as well as your Illinois Senator, Representative, and other state officials. Another option is the contact functionality in the Elected Officials tool by Capital Advantage.

The next step is to either call or write. If you would like to carefully think through what you want to say, a letter is a good choice. However, for pushing legislators to sponsor or vote correctly on a bill, a timely phone call or email to their office can be just as effective.

Contact the Media

Newspapers, radio, TV, and other news outlets play a vital role in our society. They frame the issues of the day and then inform the public about them. We encourage you to call and write to spread the message of liberty.

A great contact tool to use is the Media Guide by Capital Advantage. The tool allows you to search for media contact information and send multiple contacts through a single form.

Here are some sample letters for inspiration. Each has been published by newspapers in Illinois.

For more information about calling radio shows, visit the Call Talk Radio page on the LP.org website.

Get Libertarians Elected

You can serve your community on the local, state, or national level by becoming a candidate for public office or assisting libertarian campaigns.

Become a Liberty Leader

If there is a Libertarian Chapter near you, get involved. Attend the next meeting and tell the Chair that you would like to volunteer. If not, start your own Chapter and become a leader in your community.
